My first attempt at Amigurumi

I’ve been working on my first Amigurumi piece. It’s a tea cup based on a pattern(Log in required) by LionBrand Yarn.

The hardest part of the whole pattern was keeping up with the first stitch for the round. I was using a paperclip for the marker, and it kept falling off. I ended up using a twist tie as a stitch marker for the tea. While it stayed in better than the paper clip; The wires kept poking my fingers. Ouch! And I thought Sugarbaby’s (my pet cockatiel) nails were sharp… I put crochet stitch markers on my list of art supplies to get soon. Until then I’m going to find some safety pins.

Crocheting in the round is fun, because you don’t have to flip the piece over. You just keep going and it keeps getting bigger and bigger. At one point in the pattern you crochet in the back side of the stich, which I ended up finding this you tube video that told me what to do. SO that endeded up being alot simpler than it sounded at first.

So here it is so far:

It’s not quite finished yet. It’s a gift for a friend, who likes blue. So Mom suggested I put some blue on it. I added the blue around the top, and I’m thinking about putting blue around that indent near the top, to make a double band of blue. I vaguely remember seeing a coffee cup with that pattern on it somewhere.

I’m planning on trying to crochet a saucer for it. Mom suggested it, because it doesn’t look quite right without a saucer. We’ll see how it looks before sewing it on, not quite sure if I’ll like it or not.

I’ve been drawing a lot more lately. Not anything that goes beyond sketchbook sketches. Lots, and lots, of sketches. If you want to see some of them you can go to my scrapbook on my deviantart account. Mostly random things, and Pokemon.  My skills at sketching are slowly improving, and it’s getting easier to judge the shape of things. Perspective is still hard though, and shading is as well. So more practice is still ahead. :)

The baby blanket I knitted is being put to good use. The baby that I knitted it for was born last weekend. I was looking back and noticed I didn’t post a link to the photo of it, so you can see the baby blanket here.

About a month ago I finally figured out how to crochet thanks to a video on YouTube.  I have a ripple blanket started, but I’ve ripped it out about 6 times.  Figuring out just how to do the decreases on the end of the rows took me awhile to figure out; I’m still not sure I have it correct.

In other exciting news I was fortunate enough to be able to purchase a  MSI wind. A MSI Wind is a small portable computer called a netbook. It is basicly the same as a laptop only smaller. It’s only 10 inches wide total. The keyboard is a good size, and I’ll hopefully do a lot of writing on my trip.  So you probably won’t even know that I’ve been gone, unless I write about something that happens.

I’ve gone back to playing my Nintendo DS lately. Focusing mainly on Pokemon Pearl. I had sat it, as well as Pokemon Diamond, aside for awhile after getting stuck just before the elite four in Diamond. The news of Pokemon Platinum being relised prodded me into trying them again. I’m being a lot more careful about how I build my team this time so that I hopefully don’t get stuck in the same spot… I’ll let y’all know how it goes.  :)

Take care, I hope y’all have a great weekend!
