There’s big trouble on the wrist radio: Five of the city’s deadliest hoods lie dead in a downtown garage _ and thier boss, Lips Manlis, will soon be number six. “Big Boy” Caprice is on the rampage. With his number one gun, Flattop, loose on the streets, Big Boy Plans to destroy is gangland opposition and unite all the tough guys in town — Pruneface, Mumbles, Itchy, Numbers, and the rest — in an organized reign of terror. Just one man stands in Big Boy’s way: Dick Tracy.
I picked this up as am mildly curious about any of the detectives that were on the radio at one point. Dick Tracy isn’t one that I knew a whole lot about. Before I read the book I knew he was a cop, and that he wear’s a yellow coat and a fedora.
If you can deal with how predictable the overall story is, you’ll find it’s a fairly enjoyable book. There’s a lot of killing in the book, but non of it is something I would describe as gruesome. The person gets shot, he dies, that’s it. It fits with the overall style of the book. It feels like Mr. Collins is a big fan of Dick Tracy, because the book is written with great respect to the characters.
I doubt that I’ll look up anything else related to Dick Tracy, but this book was worth the read.
